You go to great lengths to achieve success in business, yet you can’t be bothered to do a thing for Jesus Christ.
People will fight over and even put their life in jeopardy for their favorite sports team, yet they won’t do the same for Jesus Christ.
God convicts me
I was in the midst of it. Building this whole system that was my business. A well-thought out machine to serve people and help them improve their own businesses. A way for me to make a living by serving others.
In this business, I’d spend whole days thinking and planning it all. Putting it all together and then building it. Day in and day out. Investing all of my time and energy into building my business.
When…
God asks me a question
At some point in this time, God gave me a thought.
He said to me, “You’re willing to put in all this work, time and energy into building your business. Why don’t you do the same for me?”
“Is the business more worth it?
“What will the business get you?”
“Does the business concern eternal life?”
The answers to the question
The answers were very simple.
I have no reason not to do the same for God. If I could put so much time and effort into my business, there is NOTHING stopping me from doing the same for God! If I could have so much dedication to my business, I CERTAINLY could have it and so much more for God!
No. The business isn’t more worth it.
Nothing. The business doesn’t truly get me anything that God can’t give me. It only gives temporary things and all the things it gives will eventually disappear. I’ll continue to thirst and hunger from the things the business gives. I’ll always desire more from what the business gives. It never satisfies.
No, the business doesn’t concern salvation or eternal life. The business concerns nothing but earthly matters. Things that are temporary—and in the grand scheme of things, don’t truly matter. What God wants concerns people’s eternal life. It concerns their salvation. It concerns life itself. It concerns the difference between an eternity away from God, hell, and an eternity with God, Heaven.
The business which I was investing all my time into didn’t truly concern anything important.
Yes, it makes me money to live… But God can provide me everything I need to live and more. God even provides LIFE itself!
Where to go from here?
And the message was crystal clear.
I’ve been investing all my time and energy into projects and endeavors that didn’t make a difference where it truly matters. That is in eternity, in righteousness, in purity, in goodness, in the very things of God.
My efforts made a big difference in the world, but didn’t make a single difference in the kingdom of God, where it truly mattered most.
The LORD’s free man
In the Bible, it is written that those who are in servitude, servants, are the LORD’s free man. And those who are free, are the LORD’s servants.
21 Were you called while a slave? Do not worry about it; but if you are able also to become free, rather do that.
22 For he who was called in the Lord while a slave, is the Lord’s freedman; likewise he who was called while free, is Christ’s slave.
23 You were bought with a price; do not become slaves of men.
24 Brethren, each one is to remain with God in that condition in which he was called.
1 Corinthians 7:21-24 NASB1995
To put it simply, those who are servants to someone, or employed, and are called to GOD, are free men to GOD. They do not have duties and responsibilities to serve GOD in their works because they aren’t able to. They are required to serve their boss. But the people who are free, who don’t have a boss or taskmaster, and are called to GOD are GOD’s servants. They have the time to serve GOD because they are free! They can serve in GOD’s kingdom because they don’t have any other obligations.
So, the men who are free in the world, are servants to God. The men who are servants in the world, are free to God.
I’m a free man in the world which means I should be a servant to God. Yet, I wasn’t.
Therein lies the problem. I had no excuses and I wasn’t serving God.
Start serving God
So I needed to start serving God.
I needed to start investing my time and energy into God. I needed to be dedicated to God as much as I was to my business if not significantly more.
I needed to spend more of my time working on and building up GOD’s kingdom than building up my temporary one.
I needed to serve people’s eternity, instead of their temporary. Their immortality, not their mortality. The things that last forever, not the things that come to an end.
And that’s what I’m doing now.
