You ever seen those movies or TV shows?
The guy or girl hops out of their luxury car. Puts on their sunglasses. Shows off. Then throws their keys to the valet at the front, barely glancing at them, paying no attention to them as they strut their stuff past them into the hotel. With zero regard to the valet, as if they didn’t exist.
That’s what people do with God. And they do it when they want something from Him. But they don’t even stop to take the time and fellowship with God. To talk with God. To walk with Him.
Instead, they quickly spout out a prayer and throw it to God like the keys tossed to valet. And they expect and feel entitled for it to be taken care of. As if God is their slave to serve them at their every command.
I heard a pastor say they treat God as their “genie in a bottle.” And that’s right.
God to them is just their magical fairy that they can use to get what they want, when they want.
These people make themselves an idol. They worship themselves as a god and see God as their servant. That is idolatry and blasphemy, some of the worst of sins that were punishable by death in the Law. That’s how seriously bad and evil they were.
Yet people do it every day and casually. They think nothing of it.
